India Intensifies Nationwide Drive to Build a Drug-Free Future

India concluded its nationwide Drug-Free India Campaign from June 17 to June 26 with rallies, yoga sessions, quizzes, pledges, and awareness programmes marking the International Day Against Drug Abuse. Led by Union Minister Virendra Kumar, the initiative united schools, police, volunteers, and state authorities to promote informed choices, youth protection, and de-addiction support.

A dedicated de-addiction helpline, 14446, was also promoted to provide assistance and support to individuals seeking help. Several states, including Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana, combined public awareness programmes with enforcement measures to address the growing threat of substance abuse. The campaign placed special emphasis on protecting young people as concerns over the increasing spread of synthetic drugs continue to rise. Highlighting the importance of informed decision-making, Union Minister Virendra Kumar stressed that creating awareness and encouraging healthy choices are essential to building stronger families and a healthier society.
